Friday 21st March saw the annual Hot Cross Bun Shoot.
The event was very well attended, and included a significant number of new members to the Club.
The event was marked by two events;
The longest Portsmouth round in history, and the Robin Hood above.
If only it was intended to happen, it would be quite remarkable !!!
An ACC inside a Jazz.
HOT News
Just to let you know that Matthew has received verification from GNAS that he has now achieved his Junior Master Bowman and his Master Bowman Classification.
Robin Hood
Chris has achieved his first Robin Hood.
Great news for him, bad news for Bow selecta, who has to buy his arrows.
Stortford Open 2007
Due to building works at the venue for the 2007 Stortford Open overrunning.
We only have access to the field through a building site and toilet facilities are currently inaccessible.
We have unfortunately had to make the decision to cancel this years event on the grounds of safety for all concerned.
For those of you who have just returned from holiday, and are dreaming of next year. Well here is a thought.
Check out this link and enjoy.
For those of you who have ever shot a clout round, here are a couple of photographs taken of one of Phil's arrows at the SCAS clout last month. 180 yards is quite a long distance to shoot so to have a flag get in the way of the arrow could be thought of as rather unlucky, except for the fact that the rules state that if the pile of the arrow rests in the flag the arrow scores a clout (5 points). Excellent you say, but, if you look at the photos you will see that the arrow split the peg and carried on until the pile rested in the red zone which is only worth 4 points! So be warned all you budding clout archers, if you are going to use the peg to stop your arrows rather than shoot them into the ground make sure it is made from a good bit of rain forest and not some sustainable soft wood broom handle, 1 point could make all the difference!
The Juniors enjoying themselves at the Hertford Shoot.
Do they do the Battle of Agincourt in history these days?

New Club record
Gillian Grist shot a new club record on the 20th May 2007 for a Short Metric (normal face) with a score of 625.
All of those arrows were the most important.
Gillian did it as we all do – for Barry.March 2007 - All with a bent stick !!!!
March 2007 - Team GB won a silver at the World Champs!
The gold medal match of the Compound Men category put Great Britain at grips with the surprising Iranian team. After they qualified two Compound archers (one woman and one man) for the individual semi-finals to be competed tomorrow, Iran’s ambitions have been on the rise in this World Cup event.
In a march that Great-Britain started with an amazing 10-10-10 first end, the Iranians confirmed they will have to be counted for in the future. The match was extremely tight all the way. The results of this match became even more uncertain when the British Wakelin, Grimwood and White drew as near as one single point behind (142-143) imitating their opponent with a perfect fifth end. However, the Iranian team proved strong enough to hold their nerves claiming gold by 224-223.

County Indoor Championships February 11th 2007
This event has in the past acted as our own Club Championships.
This year due to our new excellent indoor facilities, we are holding a separate event. This did not deter a good turn out from Stortford Archers.
They returned triumphant with a haul of silverware and three new County Champions.

SAC moves into their new home ........
Thursday 28th September will be the first time that SAC have been able to shoot in the shinny new sports hall situated at St Mary's school.
After a nomadic existence over the last year the venue is finally ready.
The club will continue to shoot outside on Sunday until the end of October.

Mark Collins takes Club Champion Title for 2006
Congratulations to Mark Collins on becoming the new Club Champion after shooting 2 points inside his handicap at the Club Champs held on Sunday 10th September. Fine weather made for an ideal shooting day and Mark made the most of it. A full list of results can be found on the Club Championships page.
30th March 2006
Please note this date in your diary as this will be our last night at Stansted Mountfitchet and we'd appreciate some help in returning the equipment to the container at St. Mary's otherwise we'll have nothing to shoot at. Many hands make light work.
19th March 2006
Congratulations to both Hannah Currey and Matthew Gardner who both competed in the National Indoor Championships at Liilleshall.
Matthew managed to make 38th with his Compound bow place whilst Hannah managed to make 24th place in the Head to Head's. I think that we'll all agree both superb positions considering this was a senior competition and they are both juniors. Well done! And watch out Matthew, it looks like Hannah's catching up.
18th March 2006
Following the clubs AGM, we're now under new management. Richard Williams was voted in a chair replacing a worn out Phil. It should save the club some money as Barbara Williams remains secretary, although I wouldn't want to be around for the heated Chairman vs Secretary discussions.
Phil Lambert will be taking over the roles of Records and Competitions officer. And Peter Watson will be handling PR, whatever that might mean!
A word or warning, I suspect that Richard will want more people to get involved with their club – yes, that does mean you.
5th March 2006
Congratulations to Matthew Gardner, Barbara Williams and Phil Lambert who all shot yesterday as part of the Herts County Team in the Herts vs Middx match.
Young Matthew was shooting in the Senior Compound team, which beat Middx. Whilst Barbara and Phil both shot for the Recurve team, again beating Middx.
25th & 26th February 2006
Congratulation to both Neil and Melanie Wakelin who won the Gents Compound and Ladies Compound with scores of 599 and 593 respectively at the 2006 EFAA Indoor Championships.
12th February 2006
Ladies Day
It seemed that this years Herts Indoor County Champs at the Marlborough School in St. Albans was Ladies Day as Stortford Ladies romped away with most of the awards. Hannah Currey won the Junior Under 18's Compound award as well as the overall Junior Girls Compound title, whilst not to be outdone Liz Brown did the same with the Senior Ladies Compound. Barbara Williams won the Senior Ladies Recurve title.
It didn't all go the way of the ladies. Flying the banner for the Gents was Matthew Gardner who won the Junior Boys Compound title.
The HAA Indoor Champs also doubled as the clubs Indoor Championships. Results to follow on the Club Championships page.
20th November 2005
County Team Champions
Well done to Hannah Currey and Matthew Gardner for winning the Herts County Team Championships in the Junior Compound category. Is there no stopping this dynamic duo?
Congratulations to Liz Brown for winning the Ladies Compound Individual Gold and to Matthew Gardner for winning the Junior Gents Compound Individual Gold.
The Senior Recurve Team didn't come away empty handed with Paul Mitchell, Peter Sweetman, Phil Lambert and Barbara Williams winning Bronze medal. The Senior team was just 10 points off the gold medal, won by Abbey with a mere 15 points separating the top 4 teams.
23rd October 2005
New National Record
Congratulations to Peter Sweetman for winning the Gents Barbeow category at the FITA Clout, Stamford. And as if winning wasn't good enough, he also managed to claim a new national record in the process.
